The Nigeria Army has announced it will conduct operation python dance III (Egwu Eke) to take care of the security issues the country has just before the 2019 general elections.
The operation’s expected to last from the 1st of January to Feb 28, just enough time to cover the election which takes place within the operation window. The Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai has stated as follows:
“The exercise was necessitated by the challenges coupled with other security threats across the country such as terrorism, militancy, kidnapping and banditry.
“These threats portend that dissident groups and criminal elements could cash in on the situation to perpetrate large-scale violence before, during and after the 2019 General Elections.”
To ensure stability during the elections, the army has said the exercise is expected to be carried out concurrently in the six geopolitical zones of the country.
Meanwhile the army has stated that there’s on-going battle to rid Baga of the Boko Haram terrorists.
Its worth noting that The last operation python dance 2 carried out by the army in 2017 cost lives when they tried to assassinate the leader of the Indeginous peoples of Biafra, IPOB, leader Nnamdi Kanu.
