The leader of the indigenous peoples of Biafra, IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, has called off the 2019 Nigeria general election boycott. He urged the people of the South East and South South to go out and exercise their rights to vote.
This sudden announcement came shortly after he held a live video conference exposing Jubril Aminu Al-Sudani. In what looked like a per-recorded audio clip, Kanu said:
“Good evening wonderful people, great Biafrans wherever you are on the face of this very planet, this is a very special announcement this very evening.
“This is Nnamdi Kanu the leader of IPOB all over the world and by the grace of Chukwu Okike Abiama, the servant of the wonderful people of Biafra.
“Earlier today the 14th of February 2019, i received confirmation from our team that all of our preconditions placed before those seeking us to call off the election have been met, and in view of that, i hereby lift the boycott of the election.
“IPOB was very steadfast, we have fought a very good battle, we have made it very clear to all and sundry that we are very determined and this is victory for IPOB and victory for emancipation of Biafra.
“We said it from the beginning, nobody should expect us to participate in any form of elections unless our demands are met and i’m glad to tell you this very evening that they have acceded to our demands and it will be fully implemented.
“I therefore ask each and everyone of you to take this very good news to our towns and our villages that the boycott has been lifted, that we must also come out on the 16th to discharge whatever duty that we have or whatever allegiance that we owe to any particular person or groups of individuals.
“Never again will they take IPOB for granted and never again will people underestimate our resolve and our resilience. We have showed it to them today and we shall continue to demonstrate it till Biafra is completely restored.
“I thank you very much and may Chukwu Okike Abiama be with each and every one of you. Good evening from London.
This has drawn worldwide reactions from Biafrans everywhere, with some expressing disappointment and some others found it confusing and quickly disregarded as fake news.
The IPOB leadership has said it will release more details in the coming days but that isn’t enough to calm people who are thrown off about the sudden decision to call off the boycott without clarity.
Some critics have been quick to air out their views, insinuating all sorts of theories and some out-rightly calling Nnamdi Kanu all manner of derogatory names.
“How are supposed to participate when they have been denied the opportunity to get a PVC ?” one Facebook user and IPOB critic asked.
However, Many IPOB loyalists vowed not vote regardless of the decision.
The next few days is going to be very interesting in Nigeria as the entire world set its sight on the general election on Saturday the 16th of February 2019 but more interesting as IPOB releases details about the sudden boycott call off.
