The leader from the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu,In an interview with Israeli TV Channel 1, explained the Igbo Biafran Jewish Link sighting examples of Jewish similarities in culture and religious practices.
when asked how many people considered themselves as Jewish ..
He said: “Biafra has a total population of over 70 million people, as you know they call us the wandering Jews of Africa“
“Those that identified themselves with their Jewish heritage is nearly about 50 million people”
When asked if the entire 50 million practice Judaism, he maintained that indeed they practiced Judaism however, they lost most of their traditional Jewish heritage as a result of British colonialism and the introduction of Christianity.
“When Christianity came with colonialism, a lot of our Jewish heritage was suppressed. We were made to feel ashamed of our Jewishness“
Kanu further maintained we wanted an independent state from Nigeria just as Biafra was before the British came.
He also explained how he was arrested when he came back from London and later released on bail.
“When I came out (of prison), I continued to preach to my people. I continued to practice my Jewish religion,” he said. “And one day, the Nigerian army came to my house to kill me.
IPOB was the prospective of your Nigerian army operation code-named Operation Python Dance, launched within the south-east.
He alleged that 28 persons were killed during the army operation which has been largely felt around his father’s residence in Umuahia, Abia state.
“They killed 28 people in their attempt to kill me.My people evacuated me before they came to my bedroom.”
He said he was “smuggled out” of the country by the help of relatives.
They took me away and smuggled me out of Nigeria. I needed some time to recover which I did and then, had to make my way to Israel.”
The IPOB leader added that he feels “relieved” that he “managed to make it” to Israel, “the only place I feel safe in the world.”
He said he could have gone back to England (where he had been for years) “but I still don’t feel safe in England.That is why I stayed back in Israel.”
He said he expected the Israeli government to live up to its obligation of protecting the Jewish People all over the world.
