The deputy Senate president, Ike Ekweremadu is reportedly in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) where he is being interrogated as reported by Premium Times.
It was reported that Ekweremadu appeared at the anti-graft agency office on Tuesday, July 31 in the morning.
A source disclosed: “he is currently at the interrogation room.” “We have some questions for him bordering on corruption.
“But we do not know yet when he would be released, we will know this by 5:00 p.m.” Wilson Uwujaren who is the spokesperson of the EFCC said he would need time to find out details of Ekweremadu’s presence.

Mr Ekweremadu has faced multiple allegations of sharp practices in recent years, including claims that he forged Senate standing rules which led to the controversial election of principal officers in June 2015 and also accused of owning multiple properties abroad, some allegedly purchased using shell firms and political associates fronting for him,charges which he has denied,stating anyone who has evidence of malpractices against him should come forward.
Meanwhile, a senior special assistant to deputy Senate president, Nnanna Nze, said that acts of intimidation allegedly being unleashed on his principal, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, by the federal government agencies are growing his profile instead of diminishing his status.
Vanguard reports that he said that the tactics of the siege, anti-graft invitations and other coercive methods employed to make Ekweremadu yield to the machinations of the APC-led federal government were like examinations set to test one’s competence for higher classes.
