President Muhammadu Buhari’s special assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu has reacted to the recent video footage showing the reappearance of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu in Jerusalem,Israel.
He said, if it is indeed true that Kanu has reappeared, then that the Nigerian government has been vindicated of accusations it assassinated or kidnapped Nnamdi Kanu.
Nnamdi Kanu who had vanished for about a year after the Nigerian Army launched an attack on the IPOB Leader’s compound in Afaraukwu, Umuahia, Abia state on September 14,2017, under cover of an exercise code-named “Operation Python Dance” and murdered dozens of unarmed protesters in cold blood.
The unwarranted attack drew criticism from international bodies & the demand for the IPOB leader’s whereabouts. IPOB members wasted no time in accusing the Nigerian Federal government of assassinating or kidnapping the IPOB leader.
After about a year or precisely 13 months after the attack, Nnamdi Kanu reappeared in Jerusalem where a video footage showed him praying at the “Wailing Wall.” Nnamdi Kanu, thereafter, made a live broadcast through the Radio Biafra, on Sunday where he said that the agitation for the freedom of Biafra will continue and that he would be coming back with hell.
The IPOB leader also reiterated his call on IPOB not to take part in any elections in Nigeria which made politicians very nervous.
In reacting to Nnamdi Kanu’s sudden reappearance, the regime’s presidential aide wasted no time to vindicate itself of standing allegations of kidnap and assassination & stated as follows;
“If it happens to be true, the video footage showing Mr Nnamdi Kanu; the truth has been revealed about his alleged assassination against Nigerian government.”
He said the Nigerian government was accused of killing the IPOB leader, only for him to reappear in Israel.
“This fairy tale went up to United Nations General Assembly where some IPOB members staged a protest accusing Nigeria government of kidnapping and even killing of Mr. Kanu.”
He said now that Mr Kanu has appeared, people will know who lied between the government and those that made accusations. Garba Shehu also said his trial will definitely continue anytime he enters the country.
Meanwhile, Nnamdi Kanu, in his broadcast on Sunday, had said that he will not return to continue his trial in Nigeria because he has no faith in the Nigerian judicial process & kangaroo courts,stating that for the trials to continue,he would need guarantees & supervisors from the international community.
